On our job opportunities page lafayetteco.gov/jobs, there is a menu in the top left hand corner, pull the menu down and find the job description of a position that you would be interested in applying for. Mark that you would be interested in receiving a job interest card if the position opens.
While we highly encourage applying online at lafayetteco.gov/jobs, employment applications are available at the Human Resources Office, located at City Hall, 1290 S. Public Rd. You may also call 303-665-5588 x. 5555 to receive a faxed, emailed, or mailed application.
We evaluate your application to determine whether you qualify for the position, by comparing your skill set, experience and education to the minimum job qualifications and requirements. We then screen the applications and determine the relevancy of your experience to the functions of the open position. The hiring supervisor further narrows the selection using an equitable method. Please note that meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee an interview. The hiring process might differ according to which position you have applied for.
The next step in the process usually is an interview; it might be a video one or in-person it depends. We sometimes screen a large applicant pool by conducting a meet and greet style interview. The meet and greet interview lasts about 15 minutes; 5 or 6 questions are asked. The next step is an in-depth interview with a board consisting of the hiring supervisor, the department director, a member of the Human Resources team, and a co-worker, using a prepared list of questions.
During the application process, if you would like to answer the questions on the Affirmative Action Affidavit, you may – it is voluntary during the hiring process. If you become an employee you will be required to complete the form.

From time to time, the City of Lafayette Police Department posts available police officer positions on our website at lafayetteco.gov/jobs. A person who is interested in becoming a police officer for the City of Lafayette may sign up to receive an email when a new position is posted. We usually require applicants be POST Certified however, there are also openings for Police Recruits. Recruits are sent to academy while working for us. We encourage Police Officers who are POST Certified and have policing experience to apply; we offer lateral transfers.
In mid-February to mid-March most of the positions that will be available during the summer months are posted on the website at lafayetteco.gov/jobs. The minimum age of applicants for a Junior Ranger position is 14 and Lafayette residents are preferred; the Lifeguard position minimum age is 15 certification is required but training is provided, Customer Service Associates, Cashiers and Aides usually have to be at least 16 years of age; Seasonal Workers at the Indian Peaks Golf Course can be as young as 16. Seasonal Parks positions which require driving a truck and trailer requires 18 as the minimum age. Police Officer and Firefighters minimum age is 21.
