Southdown Indian Mountain Healing: An Afternoon of Cultural DanceFeaturing Delwin Fiddler Jr.Sunday, Nov. 12, 2-4pm at the Lafayette Public Library Community Room
Marty Chase Alone, Executive Director and Founder of Southdown Indian Mountain Healing, invites featured Native American Performer, Pow Wow Champion Grass Dancer, and Native American History Teacher, Delwin Fiddler, Jr., to share Native American dance, music, and the symbology behind them. As an Earth Guardian, Delwin educates others in the ways of protecting Mother Earth. We hope you can join us as Delwin shares his knowledge. Attendees of all ages will have the opportunity to join in the Circle Dance and other traditional dances as well as ask Chase Alone and Fiddler, Jr. questions. This is an Arts Outside event, and the event will occur outside, weather permitting. Southdown Indian Mountain Healing: Una tarde de danza cultural con Delwin Fiddler Jrdomingo 12 de noviembre, de 2-4pm en el salón comunitario de la Biblioteca Pública de LafayetteMarty Chase Alone, director ejecutivo y fundador de la organización Southdown Indian Mountain Healing, tiene como invitado a Delwin Fiddler, Jr, interprete indígena americano, campeón de Pow wow en “danza de zacate,” maestro de historia indígena, para compartir las danzas indígenas, música y su simbología. Students will enjoy this playful but exciting departure from traditional card printing. Participants will print cards that are debossed (blind stamped) with a geometric pattern on the card front with a blank area inside for the message. Time permitting, students can choose to add a background color to the design. Class is limited to six participants, and each person will take home 10 cards. All materials included in the fee. Poet Laureate Application OpenThe Lafayette Arts & Cultural Resources Department is seeking applications for the next City of Lafayette Poet Laureate. This is an honorary position whose role is to promote the literary arts and literacy within Lafayette. The Lafayette Poet Laureate is a 2-year position with a stipend of $2500 per term. Applicants must be residents of Lafayette, have a professional reputation, and have the ability to relate to a diverse community. The Lafayette Poet Laureate is responsible for producing, sharing, and promoting poetry throughout their term. The application process for poets is open Nov. 1,2023 - Jan. 31, 2024. The selection committee reviews the applications and selects a poet. The Mayor will appoint the City of Lafayette Poet Laureate in April 2024. Art on the Street 2023Materials Feature: BRONZEArtists Timm Duffy and Daphna Russell each have bronze sculptures in Art on the Street this year. Bronze is often cast from sculpted clay or wax, providing details that reflect and celebrate the artist’s touch. In Duffy’s Stargazer and Russell’s Persian Horse we observe the impact of the artists’ hands on the surfaces. Persian Horse is a smaller work but makes an impact in stance and position. The details are stylized and abstracted; it’s a lovely piece. Stargazer has an agitated surface creating an abstracted figure however the position and forms convey the story of an elderly person, grasping a fence as they look out to the night sky. |

Arte en la Calle 2023Material en exposición: BRONCECada uno de los artistas Timm Duffy y Daphna Russell tendrá esculturas de bronce en exhibición en Arte en la Calle este año. El bronce es típicamente moldeado de esculturas hechas de plastilina o cera cuyo uso provee detalles que reflejan y celebran el toque artístico de los dos artistas. En la escultura Stargazer de Duffy y Persian Horse de Russell podemos observar el impacto que las manos de ambos tienen en la superficie de su escultura. Persian Horse es una obra más pequeña, pero demuestra su impacto en su postura y posición. Los detalles son estilizados y abstractos; es una pieza de arte bonita. Stargazer, al tener una superficie inquieta, crea una figura abstracta pero su posición y forma transmite la historia de una persona anciana, sujetándose de una cerca al observar el anochecer. |
