Lafayette Police Department, in partnership with the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority (CATPA), are making kits available to the public for catalytic converter labeling to deter, and aid in the prosecution of, catalytic converter thefts. Kits include all the necessary materials to label and etch your vehicle's catalytic converter for identification purposes. Catalytic converter labeling will allow identification of your catalytic converter in the event it is stolen and later recovered by law enforcement. The unique identification code is entered into a federal database. The kit is simple! Labeling can be attached by the vehicle owner or your normally trusted auto service provider. Auto service providers, however may have a charge to do this.
If you are interested in a free kit or would like more information, please contact LPD Crime Prevention Technician Robert Wilson, 303-661-1383 or robert.wilson@lafayetteco.gov.
