[ARCHIVED] Lafayette and Broomfield to get Trail Connection

Two Creeks OS Complex

Lafayette City Council approved an agreement with the City of Broomfield to construct a recreational access trail from the Broomfield Trail, located on the western edge of the Anthem subdivision, through the Mountain View Egg Farm property, to the Coal Creek Trail by the end of 2013. The Coal Creek Trail is located south of State Highway 7 on Lafayette’s eastern border. This trail is part of a larger regional trail which connects with the Rock Creek Trail and will now allow Broomfield residents to access a 27 mile trail system spanning from Erie to Superior. The new trail will also provide Lafayette residents access to the trail system within the Anthem subdivision.

“This partnership between Lafayette, Broomfield, and Boulder County brings a wealth of benefits to the area,” explains Monte Stevenson, Director of Lafayette’s Parks, Open Space and Golf Department. “The idea of three agencies coming together to support connectivity to this 27 mile asset is incredibly valuable for public users.”

Under the agreement Broomfield will pay Lafayette $461,666 which will go towards the construction of the new trail link, to partially fund the cost to remove five Egg Farm buildings, and to offset expenditures previously made by Lafayette for the open space parcels and improvements. The new trail link will be completed in 2013.
