Teen Science Café - Register

Thursday, January 12, 2023

Teens in grades 9-12 - sign up to get hands-on with CU Science Discovery. This month we explore the topic "Engineering for Sustainability with Bioplastics: Using Art, Science and Engineering to Eliminate Our Plastic Addiction."

Ring in the New Year with a special Café focused on innovations in art, sustainability, and biomedical and materials engineering. How do those things connect? Ask our next guest scientists Fiona Bell and Netta Ofer, PhD candidates in the Living Matter Lab at CU Boulder’s ATLAS Institute.

We'll learn about the work done by the Living Matter Lab to reduce carbon emissions and waste and make healthcare more affordable and effective by engineering solutions that are both technologically innovative, sustainable, and just plain fun, using of all things…microbes! Get some firsthand experience with biodegradable wearables, clay made from composted food waste, customizable algae-plastic, self-cleaning textiles, housewares made from mushrooms, and dancing slime molds. We’ll engage with all our senses at this Café, so be prepared to learn and play, and to get hands-on with some seriously odd and squishy stuff!

About the Café
Join us in the Meeting Room on the lower level. Every month we'll have a lively discussion covering a topic on the cutting edge of science and culture. Register for any that you would like to attend!
