About the Department
The City of Lafayette Police Department is a contemporary law enforcement agency that has been providing excellent services to the community for over 100 years.
Our department consists of 55 (45 sworn, 10 civilian) dedicated and talented individuals who operate under a community policing philosophy. This philosophy directs department members to form lasting partnerships with members of the community, providing continuous feedback from the community to the police department. This two-way communication results in an outstanding relationship with the community and a high level of responsiveness to community needs and concerns.

The Lafayette Police Department provides professional, ethical, impartial, and community-oriented law enforcement services to residents and visitors alike. The department promotes community safety and well-being, reduces crime, the fear of crime and neighborhood decay, and protects life and property.
The Lafayette Police Department participates in a multi-agency team to investigate peace officer-involved shootings in Boulder County. Boulder County Investigation Team Protocol.
