General Business License (City Sales and Use Tax License)
The City of Lafayette requires all businesses with a physical location in the City of Lafayette to hold an active City sales and use tax license, also referred to as a general business license. You can apply for a City of Lafayette sales and use tax license at https://lafayette.munirevs.com.
City of Lafayette sales and use tax licenses are already held by most Lafayette retail businesses. Examples of already-licensed businesses include:
- restaurants
- grocery stores
- department stores
- gift shops
- convenience stores
- gas stations
- coffee shops
- other retailers
Certain non-retail business types were not previously required to hold a City of Lafayette sales and use tax license. Examples include:
- professional service firms (law firms, accounting firms)
- medical offices
- "back office" operations such as IT centers
- consulting firms
- daycare centers
- yoga studios and other non-retailer business types
As of January 1, 2022, all business entities with a location in the City are required to apply for and hold a City sales and use tax license. While many of these non-retail businesses already have a City sales and use tax license, many do not. You can apply for a City of Lafayette sales and use tax license at https://lafayette.munirevs.com.
In addition to businesses with a physical location in the City, all businesses engaged in business in the City (as defined in Municipal Code, Code of Ordinances, Chapter 110) are required to hold an active City sales and use tax license.
City sales and use tax license requirements are specified in the Municipal Code, Code of Ordinances, Chapter 110.
