Maintaining Lafayette’s Historic Resources
The Lafayette Register of Historic Places (PDF) was established by city ordinance in 1998.The purpose of the register is to protect local structures, sites, or neighborhoods that:
- Are associated with famous historic events or persons
- Make a special contribution to the distinctive character of Lafayette
- Represent distinctive examples of architecture
Properties are listed in the register following review and approval by the Lafayette Historic Preservation Board. The approved recommendation is forwarded to the Lafayette City Council, who may, by ordinance, designate property as a landmark or a landmark district.
