Artist Statement
I enjoy combining unlike materials. In “Light Fall” the opaque steel arcs create a sweep of vibrant color towards transparent acrylic planes. The work is designed as a balance of muscularity and grace. The acrylic plastic plays a structural role as well as a visual one -- connecting and supporting parts of the sculpture while partially disappearing into the surroundings. The plastic type is the same material used around hockey rinks. Color was chosen as a vivid contrast to summer green and winter white. I think of the paint slashes that pattern the surface as marks drawn on the air.
