Chief Rick Bashor joined the Lafayette Police Department in 1984. During his career in Lafayette, he has served in many capacities, including reserve officer, patrol officer, detective, patrol sergeant, detective sergeant, administrative sergeant, support services lieutenant, and support services and operations commander.


Chief Bashor has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration and has attended many law enforcement related management courses. In 2022 he completed the Leading, Educating and Developing (LEAD) Program, a dynamic one-week leadership development program designed for local government heads and supervisors. In 2000, he attended the 200th session of the FBI National Academy. He is also a certified firearms range master.
