The Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department strives to provide a standard of excellence that promotes overall well-being and grants residents and visitors opportunities to recreate in diverse ways that are compatible with our community. By offering several programs and participating in a number of unique projects, the department of Parks, Recreation & Open Space is able to provide distinctive outdoor recreation experiences.

Great Bark Dog Park Compost Program
Dog waste will now be composted at the Dog Park. Please be sure to use only the compostable bags provided at the park to discard your pet waste, and deposit bags in the bins marked "dog waste".

Landmark Tree Program
Any person who owns property in Lafayette may apply to the City Forester in order to designate a tree on that property as a “landmark tree.” Find out program details and apply online.

Memorial Bench Program
Lafayette's Memorial Bench Program Memorial Bench Program allows people to recognize a loved one, a special event, or an organization that has made a difference in the community.

Tree City USA
Celebrating Lafayette's commitment to its long-term forestry program, an annual Arbor Day volunteer event is held every April. As a member of Tree City USA, Lafayette is dedicated to fostering citizen support for and a positive public image surrounding its many efforts to plant new and maintain existing trees on public land.
