Pedestrian tips to share with your child
MYTH: A green light means it's safe to cross.
FACT #1: A green light means you should STOP and SEARCH for cars. Before you step off the curb, look LEFT-RIGHT-LEFT for traffic and cross ONLY if it is safe to do so. Watch out for cars making right turns on red.
FACT #2: A crosswalk is the designated place to cross the street, and drivers should expect to see pedestrians crossing at those locations. Before you begin to cross, look LEFT-RIGHT-LEFT for traffic and cross ONLY if it is safe to do so. Continue to keep looking left and right for cars as you cross.
MYTH: If you see the driver, the driver sees you.
FACT: The driver may not see you. Make sure the driver stops BEFORE you begin to cross the street.
